DIRECT DRIVES
Direct Drives have the advantage of being very quiet. The slower turning motor is larger and heavier than geared motors. Higher voltage (144 volts) requires additional safeguards, but contributes to very low current draws.
Homewood 4.5 KW Direct Drive Motor Voltage: 144 volts Max Current: 32 Amps Max 1,000 rpm Weight: 84 lbs. 13 inches long x 13 inches diameter Integral Thrust Bearing Price: $7,900
Homewood 9 KW Motor Voltage: 144 Volts Max Current: 64 Amps Max 1000 rpm. Weight: 144 lbs. 17 inches long x 13 inches diameter Integral thrust bearing Price: $11,800
GROUND FAULT PROTECTION: $2,000 GFI Protection is required under the proposed ABYC rules governing high voltage (above 50 volts DC) electric propulsion systems and will be necessary to obtain insurance. GFI protection is expected to decrease in cost.
